Richard has been surrounded by animals all his life. He graduated from Bristol Veterinary school in 1993 and began work in mixed practice before moving to Portishead to work with Dick and Rosie Best in 1994 where he very much enjoyed working as part of the West Hill team. He took over the practice from the Bests in 1999 when it became part of Vale Vets; the challenge of reorganising and growing the practice and then relocating it to its current site was a huge achievement. In 2012 he sold his share of the practice to concentrate on his clinical work. Richard takes great pride and joy in understanding owners needs for their pets and working with them to achieve the best outcome going forwards. The time seems right now to come back full circle and restart a new style of veterinary practice with wife Helen; using a wealth of experience gained over 22 years of veterinary work, building on what he know works well and doing the best for clients and pets.
Outside of work Richard is a very keen gardener, but also enjoys a physical challenge – Tough Mudder and 3 peaks have been completed in recent years, but he also regularly swims, cycles and has recently discovered the benefits of pilates (after many years of nagging from Helen!) This last year he has been on a beekeeping course and is hoping that he will be able to start this as a serious hobby if time allows later this year.
