Helen also qualified from Bristol in 1993 and began her career at Golden Valley Veterinary Hospital in Nailsea in mixed practice. She married Richard in 1994 and then stopped full time work to start their family in 1997; she has been fortunate to be able to continue doing part time work ever since in various locations, mainly in Portishead but also in Weston Super Mare and in Bristol. Good at ‘juggling’, she managed to follow her long time interest and qualify as a homeopath in 2006 after many years of part time study, and now uses this alongside acupuncture and a keen interest in nutrition to offer patients a broader and more holistic style of veterinary care.
Since 2014 Helen’s sole work aim has been to work with Richard and create Community Vets; the challenge of managing an interesting and varied case load with the many admin tasks behind the scenes has resulted in a full life with never a dull moment – “that’s how you like it” Richard frequently reminds her! There is great pride in the service we find ourselves able to provide to our lovely clients and their pets.
Outside of work Helen enjoys cooking well for the family and anyone else who approaches and walking the family’s cheeky terrier ‘Ned”. She sings in the local Community Choir and enjoys keeping fit; swimming, cycling and even a bit of rowing out on Portishead Marina with the Gig Rowing Club when time allows.
